20 Oct 23 Sam at GreatLoopAcademy.com on a training trip with a 430 Mainship with a 3' 8" draft. Chose this spot on a fast 3 day run to Demopolis from Counce. We were running sun up to sun down each day. Did five locks and ran out of daylight. Turned into anchorage and found two other boats anchored. Dropped the anchor at33°1.526'N • 88°13.780'W in 12' of water. Current kept us straight. Peaceful night. Anchor came up clean. Departed 30 min before sunrise. Great T-Mobile and good Verizon service. 18 Oct 23 Sam at GreatLoopAcademy.com here on a training trip with a 430 Mainship with a 3' 8" draft. Stopped here for a rest, pump out, fuel, water and a provision run. Thanks to Ann for the courtesy car - they have two! . Neely and Molly provided great service. Lots of restaurants to choose from, we went to JP's but wished we didn't. On a previous trip we went to FreddyTs and that was awesome. Short list grocery run to Dollar General but also a local supermarket nearby as well. This is a well run marina and resort and less hustle/bustle than the other big marina to the west. Good T-Mobile and Verizon service. Sam from WhatYachtToDo ?

14 Oct 23 Sam at GreatLoopAcademy.com on the lock wall here on a training trip with a 430 Mainship with a 3' 8" draft. About seven boats here. One rafted. I noticed a lot of space between boats as I disembarked for a walk. Three boats (non-loopers) refused to tighten up spacing. Checked in with Lock Master and slept soundly. Left before the sun came up. Check your AIS for tows before entering the river.

10 Oct 23 Sam of GreatLoopAcademy.com on the barge here on a training trip with a 430 Mainship with a 3' 8" draft. Logsdon has really cleaned up the barges, along with putting some picnic tables out there. Still a great deal at a dollar a foot. They told me they allow rafting three deep. We only saw two deep rafting. No power or water, but there is a bathroom and a crude shower. We walked into town and had great margaritas and Mexican food at Little Mexico. There is adequate power at the pedestals. All seem to be 30 amp. We used a splitter, but it did not seem to work so we used a 50 to 30 adapter and that seemed to work. 3 Aug 2023. This is a great Yacht Club with a wonderful restaurant. The dock hands met us at the gas dock as we were instructed to do. We got in about 2:30 p.m. and they said they had a slip for us. However because we were leaving early in the morning we asked to stay on the wall in front of the restaurant and they allowed us to do this. The restaurant and bar in the club are worth a trip to see. It was a Thursday night and there was a lot of activity and a band however everything ended around 10:00 p.m. We did get a little rolly during the night. The entrance could be a little tricky in rough weather so be prepared for that. I have heard that there is a project to redo the break wall. Wi-Fi was great. T-Mobile and Verizon signals were marginal but enough for texts and sometimes voice. The water on the wall at our pedestal did not work but I was able to use the nearby pedestal to run a hose and clean the boat. Sam & Rev on Here's To Us!!, 50' Carver at WhatYachtToDo.com

He even took two bags of donations from us to the local thrift store. Check at the office for discounts on local restaurants. We had to stay an extra night due to storms. This is a great alternative to the Trent Marina. Great Wi-Fi and adequate T-Mobile and Verizon cell coverage. Free laundry just bring your soap and dryer sheets!

18-25 Jul 2023. This is an absolute terrific marina. It is a short walk to downtown. The staff there is excellent. We had originally only scheduled three nights there, however they were able to find us four additional nights so we got to take advantage of the weekly rate. We had excellent parking across from the pump out. This required us to go around the breakwater and enter from the back. It was very convenient to get to the bathrooms and showers and Marina office as well as walking to town. The only drawback was that it is well lit at night and it attracts many bugs that will be on your boat in the morning. So just plan on giving your boat a wash down every morning! Wi-Fi was excellent as well as adequate T-Mobile and Verizon service. Pam and Kathy do a great job as managers. We could have spent another week there and not seeing everything there was to do but we had to move on. There is a Canadian Tire which we walked to as well as a No Frills store where we provisioned. Laundry was a bit expensive at $4CAD per load which we did not need to use. Sam & Rev on Here's To Us!!, 50' Carver at WhatYachtToDo.com

Our call to them did not get answered till about 1 minute before scheduled opening. There is a phone number posted to give them a call and they are very friendly. They are quite a long way away from the transient dock but there are restaurants along that wall as well. We had to get some boxes to the post office which was about a quarter of a mile away. We docked just before a downpour and the staff was out there and helped us tie up. Great restrooms and showers. We were able to eat at the Yacht Club restaurant. It was a weekend night so the music was playing across the entrance and we could listen to that. We were busy getting ready for our upbound transit so didn't have much time to explore the area. The marina Wi-Fi was very good and both are T-Mobile and Verizon phones worked adequately. The marina staff is constantly on the lookout for boats that put a wake out in the harbor. And of course on a weekend there were many boats that were going fast but the loudspeaker and siren got their attention. A very welcoming Club and town to visit. 31 Jul 2023. Arrive early and get a space at the small craft dock. We contacted the canal personnel on channel 14. We were given instructions and told that we would be the lead boat so that they would relate instructions only to us and the other boats would listen. We met our hired third person to be able to do the upbound transit. He was waiting for us as we pulled in. The transit upbound was very challenging. We had to wait for a down down freighter, so we didn't start our Transit until about 10:15 a.m. the lockmaster will dictate who goes in first and who rafts off of each boat and your position in the lock. Locks one and two are a starboard tie, and the remaining locks are a port tie. Follow the directions of the lock staff. We had to wait for at least four freighters along the way. Our boat is too big to fit in the finger pier so we went to a spot on the high concrete wall. We were able to put our swim platform so that we can get off at the bottom of steps that go up to the street level and the top of the wall. You will have to tie to the fence posts and be creative. Canalside restaurant was still open so we went there for a quick bite and a short night to rest. There are public restrooms by the finger Pier however a sign was on it that said out of order. 24 Jun 2023 – 3 Jul 2023. We moved up to the blue line at about noon. We were locked down through the flight of eight fairly quickly and then a short 1 mile ride to Hull Marina. Originally we had a 5-day stay planned, but were able to get a 7-day stay once we got to the marina. We put in a request to stay an additional two days and kept checking with them everyday. Two days before our departure the commodore knocked on our boat and she advised us that they had worked out another 2 days for us. This Marina is well run. There are restrooms, showers, and a laundry there. It is a short walk across the provincial bridge to be able to visit downtown Ottawa. We did that a number of times during our stay. Uber will take you from Ottawa to Gatineau where the marina is however they may not be able to pick you up in Gatineau. Also there is a convenience store next to the Best Western which is a short 5 to 8 minute walk. You can get beer at this convenience store that is cheaper than buying it in Ottawa. Got to know is also a very nice city to visit and we had dinner there at Pizza za, which we highly recommend. The people at the Hull Marina and The Yacht Club we're very friendly and we ended up getting a ride to a Walmart to re-provision as well as a ride to get a haircut in Ottawa. 21 Jun 2023. Going from Kingston to Ottawa we stayed at the bottom of Lock 17. After exiting the lock it is a 180° turn to port and there is a long dock there. There is power available, then walk across the lock wall to a restroom. There is no shower available. We took the tip to tip tour on foot and really enjoyed it. It was a very peaceful night there and a great place to stage for a long run to Ottawa. 19 Jun 2023. Going from Kingston to Ottawa we stayed at the bottom of lock 33. An outstanding lockmaster there gave us local information. We took a taxi into the town of Perth. As we were wrapping up eating at one of the restaurants one of the lock attendants noticed us and offered us a ride back to the lock. It's a very worthwhile visit. The lock wall does have power available and you can walk to Lock 34 to be able to take a shower. It was fairly crowded upon departure so we elected to back out rather than try to turn around. 11 Jun 2023. Confederation basin Marina is a city marina. Well run but need some care on the docks. Very professional dock hands came out to greet us in red shirts. You simply cannot beat the location because it is right at the heart of the City. The restrooms are outstanding. We counted about 10 or 12 of them each has a sink a toilet and a shower in them. There is also a lounge and the Wi-Fi is great. Be sure to visit the Blue Martini restaurant. Great live music on Friday nights. We stayed there for a week which at this city marina means six nights! 10 Jun 2023. We stayed at Fulton wall between lock two and three, since Canal Landing Marina will probably only take boats up to about 35 ft. It's tight maneuvering in there. Coordinated with the lockmaster. There is a shower and restrooms available lock key is through the lock master. Beware on weekends there may be people around the boats so ensure you take suitable precautions restrooms were marginal and shower was acceptable but needed cleaning. Overall Fulton is a great little place to stop there is a Price chopper across the bridge on the West Bank. As well as a dunkin' donut. Sam & Rev on Here's To Us!!, 50' Carver at WhatYachtToDo.com

February 12, 2022. Sam of WhatYachtToDo on a training and delivery journey. Sea Ray 480MY with a 4-ft draft. Westbound from the Industrial Lock up the Mississippi, it is a challenge to get ahold of this lock and find out your queue passage. I could see an eastbound tow in the lock on my AIS. I set up a holding pattern/racetrack on the Mississippi NW of the entrance and stayed out of the way of ships. Monitor CH 11 and let them know what you are doing while you have your other radio on 14 for the lock to give you instructions. And of course, your third radio on Ch 16. It is a busy time and you need to bring your A game.Westbound they control the 4th St Bridge and will open it. Don't untie until it is open and the horn is sounded. The RR bridge is normally open (and they control that as well).

Proceed N to Rio Fuel in 18' of water. Then follow crumbs back to Morgan City Dock. Side tie. Great power, good water. No WiFi. One restroom and shower. Bring your own toilet paper and flashlight (lights inop, Pete trying to find light bulbs?). Made quite a few calls to the number and finally had one return from Ann. It is the first come, first served and luckily as we made the starboard turn coming from the north the first spot closest to the GIWW was available :-) Water pressure low, 50 + 30 amp power good. Next to a park. We did not leave the boat unattended. Rouse's delivered groceries to the boat. I walked downtown to watch the Super Bowl, and it just happened to be the Mardi Gras parade night. Houma has the second largest Mardi Gras parade in the country! Good restaurants. No WiFi, no restrooms. This could be a great Marina with a little bit of dredging and some improvements. There's really only enough depth for one boat with a 5' draft.
