Marathon, FL
Marathon's waterfront boasts fine restaurants, beautiful beaches and access to world-class diving and snorkeling. It is a cruiser's dream, with extraordinary marine services, comprehensive provisioning opportunities, fine dining and a wonderful community feel. You'll meet dozens who came here to visit and simply could not leave. The marina loans out bikes to visitors who can show evidence of a working lock, and that makes provisioning a breeze. West Marine is conveniently located at 2109 Overseas Hwy. (305-289-1009), while Seamark Electronics is at 2994 Overseas Hwy. (305-743-6633), should you need them.
If you have transportation, the Dolphin Research Center at Vaca Key hosts dolphin shows, dolphin and sea lion interactions and offers educational programs, interactive experiences and guided tours at 58901 Overseas Hwy. (305-289-1121). Stop by Curry Hammock State Park on the way for a beautiful beach, as well as hiking trails, fishing opportunities and a variety of wildlife. Another worthwhile destination is Crane Point Museum & Nature Center to the north, which includes a natural history museum, marine touch tanks and a bird rescue center at 5550 Overseas Hwy.
