Sisters Creek/Sombrero Beach
- Location: Boot Key Harbor
- Lat / Lon: N 24° 41.576' / W 081° 05.328'
- Depth: 6
- Tide: 2
- Description:
After being unable to anchor in crowded Sisters Creek anchorage just a little to the north, we wound up here against the mangroves. We dropped anchor in about 6 feet of water, tied a stern line to some stout mangrove logs, and dropped a stern anchor on the opposite side of the boat. This had us pointing upstream near the mangroves in such a way that the tide/current change couldn't push us all the way into the trees. It worked; we barely moved. A large sailing cat joined us a little farther up with a similar setup. I think this would be fine for one night but suspect the neighbors across the channel might stir up a fuss for longer stays.
NOTE: Per Florida Statute 327.4109
The owner or operator of a vessel or floating structure may not anchor or moor such that the nearest approach of the anchored or moored vessel or floating structure is:
- Within 150 feet of any marina, boat ramp, boatyard, or other vessel launching or loading facility;
- Within 300 feet of a superyacht repair facility. For purposes of this subparagraph, the term "superyacht repair facility" means a facility that services or repairs a yacht with a water line of 120 feet or more in length; or
- Within 100 feet outward from the marked boundary of a public mooring field or a lesser distance if approved by the commission upon request of a local government within which the mooring field is located. The commission may adopt rules to implement this subparagraph.
