Branford, CT
Branford is the best port of refuge and easiest harbor entry in the almost 20 miles stretching between New Haven and Clinton. There are many restored homes dating from the Colonial days, when it had important salt works (meat for Revolutionary War troops was preserved in Branford salt) and granite quarries.
Branford also was a Yankee trading center and the original home of Yale University. Today, Branford is a vibrant community of about 28,000 residents, some of whom are affiliated with Yale and other New Haven-area universities.
