Cold Spring Harbor, NY

The village of Cold Spring Harbor preserves the maritime history of Long Island in the Whaling Museum and Education Center (631-367-3418) located amid the cluster of 18th-century and 19th-century houses overlooking the narrow harbor.

Cold Spring Harbor is also home to the DNA Learning Center (516-367-5170), the world’s first Biotechnology Museum, and the Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium (516-692-6768), which raises a variety of species of trout to stock ponds and turtles for release into the wild. It is extremely “kid friendly.”
