Knapps Narrows, MD
From Poplar Island Narrows or from the open Bay Knapps Narrows provides a shortcut into the Choptank River across the northern end of Tilghman Island. The short, artificial cut provides an alternative to the route south around the island and its exposed Black Walnut Point.
A drawbridge at Knapps Narrows guards the entry to Tilghman Island, whether you are entering by road or via the narrows on your boat. Workboats cluster at the harbor there in what is known as the “tonger’s basin,” while farther on down the island you will see the skipjacks at the island’s Dogwood Harbor.
