The docks were OK (I wouldn't call it a marina). Had one pedestal that had a loose connection and had to move boat to another to get a good electrical connection. That's just a maintenance item that needs to be addressed.
The restaurant is all outside seating. Not good for either me or the Admiral, so we passed.
This was definitely not worth the trip up the river (8 miles, or about an hour), which has some shallow spots you need to be aware of to avoid. There are other choices close by for a quick nights tie up to be had.

Casper's is more of a dry storage facility for the locals with a dock for a couple of transients if they pass by. Fixed docks so when tide comes in, it's a little bit of a challenge to exit and enter the boat. The pilings are outside the dock surface as noted, so that adds to the difficulty.
Dock hands were helpful getting the boat tied up (We had 3 on hand!!)
Wifi was good, not great. A little slow at times, but given there's usually only 1 or 2 boats at the marina at any given time, it doesn't get bogged down with a lot of users.
Restrooms were disgusting when we got there. I politely mentioned it to Susan and she got someone to clean them. But that once was the only cleaning they got while we were there the 3 days. And most of the locals and the patrons of "Lady Swan" use the bathrooms as the come and go daily. It's the details that make or break you, and that's one detail they need to improve on.
Town is close by with nice galleries and a couple of nice restaurants. And a candy store that is a "don't miss" with ice cream.
I'd stop again, but only for a night, as the town is not big enough for more than one visit.

Nice Marina. Well protected harbor makes for easy docking, and dock hand helped with advice and hands on tying lines.
Restrooms are clean, if not spacious, but functional and working is always a good thing. Only caveat here is they had 2 showers and 1 toilet. Priority should be the other way around????
Pool was nice. A little cloudy, but the staff looked like they were working on it.
Wifi was not good. You could connect, but internet was not working a lot, and it was slow when it was. Only real downside here.
Town is just a few buildings around the marinas it seems. Mostly residential in nature, with a lot of houses from early 1900's. Easy town to walk, and a Piggly Wiggly that will deliver (we found out after we rode our bikes) about a mile or so away.
M & M down past the Provision store was good eating, and the coffee store across the street from the marina had very good ice cream.
No doubt I would stop again, but size if the town would make it a stopover, not a visit.

  • Marina Review for Belhaven Marina

Belhaven Marina is a good marina, and they seem to be trying real hard to please, but they have a couple of things that need some attention to get it to 5 stars. We'll get to that shortly. First the good stuff:
The dock hands were very helpful getting us tied up in a strong westerly wind on the east side of the dock so that is a big plus.
Beer ($3.00) and wine in the marina office. Hat's off to whoever thought of that!
Bathrooms have some interesting decor, and are functional and clean.
Town is close by. A good hardware store, a couple of galleries, and it looks like they are also building a couple more storefronts out of one of the buildings. The whole town in one block! Rest of town is houses which mostly are nice turn of the century structures.
Two restaurants: Spoon River, which tries too hard to be "upscale". Puts out a good presentation, and the food is good, but they are expensive for what it is. Fish Hooks is home cooked meal, basic fare at a reasonable price. Ice cream store across the street is also a winner.
Now the downside: Laundry is free, but no AC in that room. It wasn't real hot when we were there, but I can't imagine being in that room on a hot summer day. And they left a gallon of bug spray sitting in the laundry tub. Bad sign!!
Dock is old and not level. It seems sturdy enough, except for the last section by the yard, but you can tell it's been there a while. Could use some new wood and leveling.
Bugs! The power pedestals are on the land side of the dock, so they run the power cable under a hinged dock board. Dirt and wet rotted boards underneath breed bugs. Ants used the power cable as a bridge to the boat and we spent most of the day getting rid of the little critters. That's a big downer. Not sure how to get around this, but last thing a boater needs is bugs on the boat. My solution was to let part of the power cord hang in the water to interrupt the bridge. That and some ant bait from the hardware store seemed to have done the trick.
All in all, in a pinch I'd go there again. But given a choice, I'd choose another marina.

The marina and all it's employees are great. Had some stuff delivered prior to arrival and Anita and David took care of my stuff with kid gloves, and it was all there waiting for me when I got there. Dock hands were very helpful getting boat tied up, even went on boat next to our slip to throw a line around the piling for our bow line (we were much shorter than the piling took into account for). Restrooms were clean and functional and accessible. Docks were sturdy floating docks.
However, the restaurant has taken over the pool. There's a sign that says the pool is for registered marina guests only, but there were others (a family of about 6 comes to mind) that also uses the pool. Additionally, the restaurant is now making the rules for the pool. Since they are connected, you cannot bring any food or drinks from the boat to the pool. It all has to come from the restaurant. If the marina is going to have a pool for their guests, they need to keep the restaurant out the running of it. This is not the case at this location. They lose 2 stars for that, but the marina itself should get 5 stars.

The marina only gets 3 stars for the 2 very big down sides of the place: No air conditioning in either the laundry room or the restrooms. Both are nice rooms, brand new washer and dryer, and newly renovated restrooms. But without AC, that all goes by the wayside. The ice machine in the laundry room creates heat and it must be 100 degrees plus in there. The restrooms have a fan, but that's not enough.
The office, which is in the same building, has AC and it's nice and cool for the staff.
Other than those things, the marina is nice. Docks are relatively new and sturdy. The courtesy car is nice since the Food Lion is not in walking or bike riding distance.
Small town with a few artsy galleries and a couple of restaurants makes it worth a day's stay, but not much more.
Would come here again in a pinch, but it's off my route of places to visit.

Nice marina. Floating finger piers on fixed dock, but it's OK. Makes stern access a little tough, but we managed.
Courtesy car is nice. Needed since everything in Deltaville is distant from each other. No town to speak of, just a couple of shops on a highway that ends at Stingray Point.
Pool was big and refreshing. Restrooms were clean, and laundry was functional.
Access was easy, with well marked channel and plenty of water.
One odd thing: There's a feral cat that lives at the marina. Nice calico. She adopted our helm for a night sleeping area. Found her curled up there two nights. No harm, no foul.
Would stop again if in the area and needed a place to tie up and plug in.

Somers Cove is a very nice marina. The docks were concrete floating docks in good condition, and with pilings between slips to keep you off your neighbor and guide you in. Also a T-head for the larger or wider boats.
Restrooms and laundry were in good condition, although the laundry is not air-conditioned, but the restrooms/showers were. There are actually 2 sets of restrooms/showers, but we only utilized the ones at the office.
Dock office/store is nice, has a few things you might need/want, and they have ice cream. Hershey Chocolate covered vanilla on a stick for 80 cents. Can't beat it.
Pool was big, and clean. Only down side is they sell memberships to locals, so it'll get crowded at times.
Restaurant on site was a bust. The Red Shell Shanty is a converted outdoor venue, with not many items on the menu. The admiral said the crab cake was good, but the hamburger (special of the day) I got was horrible. Not much meat, and the crab dip that was applied was not enough and little or no crab in it at all. Probably my fault for ordering a hamburger in the crab capital of the bay.
The town of Crisfield is another story. It's not dead, but it has four toes and a foot in the casket. Most of the storefronts are abandoned, and there are many houses that are condemned, and a bunch more that are abandoned and should be condemned. Sad to see, since most of the homes are the typical Queen Anne style architecture of the late 1800's early 1900's, and someone convinced a lot of people they should enclose the front porch. NOT a good idea.
And lots of BIG churches. Of course, I'm not sure they get filled on Sunday morning, but they are quite the spectacle.
I'd stop again for a night, but not for an extended visit. Just not enough there to entertain you for more than a day.

This is an OK marina. Good concrete floating docks, but not enough cleats. Had to tie to a 4x4 attached to dock on bow line to adequately keep boat close to dock.
Small town with lots of historical stuff, mostly on the Revolution, which makes sense given it was the site of the last battle of the war.
Restrooms are good and clean, but a little bit of a walk from the docks.
Restaurants are close by, but expensive. Only ate at Yorktown Pub, and the beer was cold, so that's a plus.
Fuel was also expensive, but we didn't need so we didn't get any.
All in, would definitely stop here again.

This is a good marina. Scott, the dockmaster was very helpful getting in and during our stay made sure we were appraised of the changes going on. It looks like he's doing his best to upgrade as much as possible.
Floating docks are good, but the finger docks need a little help.
Restrooms and Laundry are clean and functional. Looks like men's room was recently renovated.
Location was excellent. In Portsmouth, which is actually a little better than Norfolk. And it's only a $2 ferry ride to Norfolk.
Pool was interesting. It's on a floating platform, so it rolls and rumbles from passing ships. Not much, but you can feel it.
Restaurant was a bust. Food was OK, but not great. Bad part was they added an 18% gratuity to the bill, and they don't tell you about that. I'm not a fan, and if the owner decides on the tip, that's all they get.
All being said, would definitely stop here again.

This is a face dock with a good restaurant. Dockhands were helpful getting the boat tied up and didn't have to adjust once they were finished. Bathrooms were clean and functional, and the new dock house (more like a store) was well stocked, and had ice cream. Also a counter with a couple of beer taps to quench your thirst.
Restaurant was good, prime rib was cooked correctly, and the fried oysters & clam strips were also good.
We stayed 2 nights, but it's really meant to be a one night midway stop between Belhaven (or Alligator River if Albermarle is kicking up) and Norfolk, making it a one night stop for next time.
    Would definitely stop here again.

Lot of boat traffic, and not everyone adheres to the no wake zone.
Nice restrooms/showers, but only one for each gender.
Rusty Hooks restaurant on site is good, but the marina is a little remote from anything else so Uber ride would be necessary to get into Southport. We did manage to get to the Food Lion via bicycles, but on a busy highway with no sidewalk and not much of a shoulder.

Dockhands were very helpful getting boat tied up to floating dock by fuel dock in front of dock house. Came in Monday 6/27/22, so they were open (they are not working Tuesdays and Wednesdays).

If you are looking for a "Yacht Club" experience, this is the place. Good docks, good dock hands that help get the boat tied up. Very nice club facility that serves dinner 4 nights a week, and a small grill for lunch that is open 6 days a week. Small store with little sundries but very expensive.
And they have a pool! Restrooms and showers adjacent to the Captain's lounge, all very nice.
Marina is the focal point for a small planned community that is still growing. About 7-8 miles from Oriental, so that's not an option and nothing else close by, so you either use their facilities or you are on your own. They do have a courtesy car, but they limit it's use, so need to take that into consideration.
Very protected harbor, so no wakes or waves to disturb those that get disturbed by those things.

This is a good marina. Although it is a Yacht Club, they accept transients for short stays. A lotta of liveaboards here, and all the ones I met were friendly and interested in the stories of our travels.
Restrooms and laundry both clean and functional.
Pool was great, especially since we had it mostly to ourselves.
Although I didn't get fuel, it was reasonably priced. Pump out doesn't work real good at the end of the line, which is where we were.
One downside that we experienced: The Officer's Club. Although I'm sure they have some offerings that are good, the Liver & Onions were terrible! Sauteed in butter (lots of it) and then bacon added. Anything you add bacon to is going to taste like bacon. Not a good move on the chef's part.
Overall a good marina that I would definitely visit again. Next time I'll try Clark's for dinner, which is right next door and also supposed to be a good restaurant.

    Restrooms were clean and functional.
Dockhands were friendly and helpful, as well as the office staff.
Docks are little dated, but they work. Power and water adequate.
Only down side is the exposure to the boat traffic and wind coming off the sound. Most boats don't abide by the "no wake zone", and you and the docks tend to bounce around quite a bit. But it quiets down at night, so no issue sleeping.

This is a "rustic" marina with floating wooden docks that are a little unstable, but they work, and that's the important part. Run by couple of brothers the old fashion way. Cash is preferred.
Getting in/tied up was dicey with wind and current, but managed with dock help. Hit a little harder than planned, but no damage to dock or boat.
Store looked like it was geared toward the locals (cold beer and ice and few other items).
Power was fine. Water was available, but lacked the volume (pressure was OK) to use for boat. Filled our tank and that worked out.
As noted, pretty area, in the "middle of nowhere" which made for a nice 2 day stay.
Toilets were available, but not up to the Admiral's standards. Didn't see the showers so no comment.
Fuel was a good price, even though we didn't take on any.

Reasonably priced. Close to shopping and a few restaurants that we didn't try.
Staff was semi-helpful when getting us in the slip, but there is a "newbie" dock hand that told the Admiral he was not allowed to tie us off. Her reaction was a torrent of words I won't repeat but justified. Tried to convince him that didn't make sense, but don't think I got through. All we need it to get the boat secured and then I adjust according to tides, wind and waves accordingly. I'm a little anal about what the boat does in the slip (not bouncing off pilings allowed!!) Tough to get tied up by ourselves in calm weather (which is what we had), can't imagine the difficulty if it was windy. Using pilings instead of cleats makes it that much more difficult due to the time it takes to wrap and cinch.
Restrooms/showers are OK (no AC in the ones near our slip), clean and functional. Laundry also OK, just a little aged, also no AC.
However, this is the second time I've been here, and I would not hesitate to come back.

Nettles Island is what I would classify as an "old florida" marina. no cleats, just lots of pilings to tie off too. Docks are old, wood, but in good condition given their age. Thomas (the dockmaster) helped us get tied up, and noticed some loose screws/nails and was back shortly with tools to correct. That gets them an "atta boy".
Restrooms are also old and small, but they work (the important stuff!!).
Lotsa liveaboards in the marina. Good local knowledge from them.
Restaurant on site is also old school. Not much to it but the food and service were good.
Overall, no complaints. I'd stay again if in the area.

Dock master was helpful, but they left him on site with no help so we were left to our own to get tied up. Fortunately the wind and tide were with us (how often do those things line up for help!!) and we had no issue getting tied up on the T dock of dock C.
Restrooms are clean but a little worn, but it all works.
    Nice big shower.
    Nice pool.
We didn't have a need nor did we see any laundry facilities.
Restaurant on site is closed on Tuesday, so we were out of luck there. Place called the Fish Shack is a mile up the road and is really good, especially the Cracked Conch.

Marina is OK at best. They don't monitor VHF so you have to call on your way in. If they don't answer, they may or may not call you back..
Crew was no help getting into a tight slip on a windy day, and showed up after we were in and pretty much tied up to help (didn't really need the help by that time).
Slips don't have an intermediate piling, so got to be careful getting in not to bump adjacent boat.
Restaurant used to be good, but seems to have gone to more of a "bar food" menu. During the pandemic, inside was closed (not sure why) so only place to sit is outside with the bar group and live not so good music. Also, they don't impose a "no smoking" area outside, so if you are a non-smoker, or just don't want to smell the smoke while eating, you're out of luck.
One good thing: Key Largo Fisheries is across the marina. Good food, outdoor cafe (no smoking), and prices aren't bad.
We will not be coming back to this marina.
