Norfolk, VA

Norfolk, home of the world’s largest naval base, has roots that begin at the waterfront and are entwined with it throughout history. Boaters continue to arrive daily at the waterfront, where they can tie up within walking distance of many of the City's must-see attractions. As in most larger cities, you will have no problem locating and accessing provisions and entertainment. Hampton Roads Transit connects with destinations beyond downtown and with all the cities in the Hampton Roads area via bus, light rail and ferry. Call 757-222-6100 or visit gohrt.com for details.

Public transportation can get you to the Norfolk Botanical Garden, a 175-acre garden filled with over 40 themed gardens and includes a butterfly house, a children's garden and a rose garden (6700 Azalea Garden Rd., 757-441-5830). The Virginia Zoo should also be on your list. This 53-acre zoo is home to over 500 animals from around the world, including lions, tigers, and giraffes (3500 Granby St., 757-441-2374).
