The City of Kingston, nicknamed the "Limestone City," is also known as the freshwater sailing capital of Canada. It is a major port and a gateway to the Thousand Islands. The oldest community in Ontario (1673) abounds with history, cultural and artistic events, fabulous shopping and world cuisine dining. Kingston is a city to be explored by walking. Trolley car tours of the city are available. The local bus service, Kingston Transit, partners with participating museums to offer visitors all-day bus passes for a nominal fee. Visitors' day passes are available at City Hall and the Visitor Information Centre. Free ferry service for cars, pedestrians and cyclists is available from Kingston to Wolfe Island, the largest of the Thousand Islands.
