Local man said there is no place to tie up in Mathews. Food Lion, hardware, several restaurants and ice cream. We starting walking to town on very busy road, not pedestrian friendly. A local kindly picked us up and
gave his number to call if we needed a ride back. We were able to get a Uber ride back, $8. Driver said we
were lucky that he was in the area. Lyft had no area drivers.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

Access to land by nearby boat ramp. One mile up the shallow creek is the quiet town of Matthew's, VA with restaurants and a Food Lion grocery. You will need to paddle the last 0.3 mile upriver to Matthew's due to silting. Cell service is spotty. Neighbors are quiet.

We had good holding in mud through as much as 20kts of wind. Our actual anchor location was 37° 24.871' N x 76° 20.325' W. There were a few crab pots to avoid but we did OK.
It is possible to dinghy to the top of the creek in Matthews but only during high tide. It nearly dries out at low tide. I recommend using the boat ramp near the anchorage and walking or cycling.
Small exposure to southwest.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

Good protection in most directions, but some exposure to the south, which we didn't mind a breeze in hot weather. Very peaceful, and scenic. There wasn't much boat traffic from the ramp, even on the weekend. We took our dinghy to the top of the creek which ends right in the town of Mathews. This should only be done on a rising tide, as the dinghy will ground out otherwise. We also were able to take our bikes ashore by dinghy to the dock at the boat ramp and ride two miles to town. The town is very picturesque with good restaurants, two grocery stores, a hardware store and a Laundromat.

Lots of silt and anchor would not bury after a couple of attempts. 35-45 blow forecasted so went around the corner to get protection from NE winds. Great spot and holding was good in sandy mud. No protection from E, SW or WSW. Winds came up as forecasted steady 20-30 gusting to 40-45. Didn't move at all. Good weather stop on the way somewhere.
