George Town & Stocking Island, Bahamas

George Town is a famous stop for cruisers in The Bahamas. In the Exumas, there are few other harbors that offer as much protection as Elizabeth Harbour does. George Town lies on the Great Exuma Island side of the harbor and is accessed via a dinghy dock inside the tiny Lake Victoria. The town's history is as colorful as its pink and white Government Building, including a stint in the 17th century during which pirates used George Town's deep-water harbor. Today the streets are lined with gift shops and grocery stores.
Stocking Island protects the harbor from the open waters of Exuma Sound. There are a few boutique resorts centered around the "hurricane hole" mooring fields and the famous Chat 'n Chill beach bar. Beyond that, the island is undeveloped and crisscrossed by a network of the most beautiful nature trails you've ever seen.
