We were on our way north and this was closer to dinghy to the Hooper Beach area to walk to the meat market. Great holding, great protection and just beautiful. We anchored at 23°31'56.1"N 75°46'19.7"W.

Heavy machinery making screeching noises, back up beeping and diesel engine noise. The main beach was definitely off limits. While the holding and protection were good, we decided to move to a mooring ball further south.

The challenge when crowded is not to anchor in the shipping channel. Watch your charts and depth sounder as you approach. There are some "deep" holes at around 11 feet that are ideal for anchoring. Since it is often crowded, plan to use as short a scope as practical for the situation. Shopping is across the harbor and often a bit wet due to fetch. There is good beach access from the Queen's dock.

We were here for 4 months! Great holding, easy to get anywhere by dinghy, albeit on windy days sometimes a bit choppy. You will get wet! Chat n Chill very close by without the noise or lights at night. Very decent wind exposure. Even on the windiest of days we were comfortable. Great overall place to be.

Access to the beach is within feet and the anchorage stays deep until close to shore. Beware of the channel directly adjacent west of the anchorage. The large supply ships use this almost daily. They will run aground if you anchor in the channel so please beware of where you are. The channel is clearly marked on Explorer charts. There is excellent hiking all along Stocking Island. Water aerobics, cross fit, concerts, etc are often held at Monument Beach or at the Chat N Chill a short distance to the south. The anchorage is excellent in N to E winds and a great place for a blow. We've also been here for SE, S and westerlies. Only a slight roll in SE and acceptable in S with winds up to 20knots. We were here for westerly component and not bad at all, but winds were less than 10-15. Cell service is excellent for ALiV and BTC and only limited by number of cruisers watching Netflix! Closest dinghy dock on the Georgetown side is directly across at Augusta Bay dock. Of course Lake Victoria and downtown GT are just a bit further south. There's good snorkeling on the Exuma Sound side on the rare days that winds are from the West.

We had easterlies up to 35kt and everyone was fine. Nice are the beaches and the many paths to explore the island and the eastern shores. To get to George Town for supplies is often a very wet ride with a small dinghy ... but there is Elvis water taxi to call, or Jamaal for services like fuel, trash or propane.
If anchoring here, please stay out of the shipping channel.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer
