- Description:
Hoopers Bay is located on the western end of Elizabeth Harbour and it is not well protected by Stocking Island. The holding is good and in settled conditions it is a reasonable overnight anchorage provided one is prepared to expect some surge, especially during tide changes.
When winds with an easterly component approach 20 knots surge from Exuma Sound will enter the anchorage and make it uncomfortable for most tastes. Most vessels will leave for better protection deeper into the harbour. Many boaters will use Hoopers Bay as a day trip to take advantage of the public access to the Queen’s Highway for a shorter walk to Prime Meats and AID Hardware. Land your dinghy at 23°31.794’N, 075° 48.483’W. Climb the steps leading to The Queen’s Highway and Prime Meats will be 200 yds to the right. The AID store is 0.75nm away to the left.
