Sometimes called the sixth Great Lake, Georgian Bay is both a cruising destination for mariners from distant ports and for local boaters from nearby. A sailor cruising in either direction along the bay (100 miles long by 50 miles wide) usually finds a fair wind. The steep-to coast offers the smoother seas of a windward shore and a succession of village ports.
