Anchored soundly between green buoys 69 and 71 on the spot on the map that shows 8ft and 12ft. 6ft draft, 47 length monohull anchored as closely as possible to the Mt. Vernon dock for easy and safe dingy access. This was a surprisingly big anchorage and there was more than ample room for us to swing and be safely out of the channel. A few catamarans came by and had trouble anchoring closer to shore. One successfully anchored with a Rocna and we anchored with a Bruce. I suspect it's the same bed as the rest of the river (mud, pebbles, sand) which we've had difficulty anchoring in with our Delta. River Current switches back and forth during high and low tides, read as high as 1 knot, anchor alarm showed a figure 8 swing pattern. The weather has been calm and the water like glass beside the power boats passing during the day. Visit Mt. Vernon during the day and you won't even notice. There are more playgrounds and national parks (Piscataway Park) on the other side of the channel for easy shore access, a gift shop, and dumpster. Locals say that it's higher tide than normal and full tree logs are floating down the river. Surprisingly no problems with them floating by and/or affecting the anchor chain. Lots of sea grass hanging off swim ladder. Would visit again in fair weather or a much needed stop.

Enjoyed our stay near this friendly town and at Tim's restaurant October 2024. Very settled weather so anchored in 10 foot water. Used the Bruce anchor because Delta was dragging, like most of the Potomac it seems to be a mix of mud, sand, and pebbles/shells. Bruce held no problem. First time doing 360's around the anchor during tidal changes, but a calm and fair night. I imagine this area would get rough during strong winds and is unprotected. Large space, was fun to practice prop walk and maneuvering among crab pots. Pots were on the way in and outer edges, but respectful of marked anchorage area. Would definitely return in fair weather. Cell Service was good and shore access via beach and/or Tim's restaurant.

Absolutely beautiful anchorage with a restaurant and public boat launch. New chef as of October 2024 and the Cajun seafood style was delicious! Good wind protection from N/NW. waves are considerably smaller here than out in the Potomac, good shelter. Difficult holding in 11ft and 12ft waters. Did have to navigate through 1 line of crab pots at entrance but no grids. Originally dropped anchor 4 times, didn't catch well, set a 10:1 scope in 8knt winds and 15knt gusts. Held through night but dragged slowly in 18knt gusts and current. Use an anchor alarm here, can't tell what the ground is, anchor comes up clean. Didn't try anchoring in 14ft waters yet as we're hiding from wind. Tried to re-anchor with the delta two more times and let out 200ft of chain, seems to be holding for now. Decent cell service and shore access via beach. Docks for restaurant are nearly 8ft high, though there was a shorter dock for viewing the sunset, still a small climb out of dinghy.

Absolutely beautiful anchorage and HUGE. Anchored here Oct 2024 to hide from 30-37knt gusts coming from NW. Anchor dragged on the more eastern side of the bay, but easily re-anchored in sticky mud on the western side of anchorage and held for the remaining 24 hours of wind and chop. Power boats passing sailboats in the channel come too close and too fast so be prepared for large wake when navigating to the anchorage. Pier remnants not on map also in deeper water when entering river so stick to the channel or navigate by day. Well lighted buoys and enough room for lots of boats to anchor though we were the only one. No shore access, possibly a beach, but looks like private property. Would return for an overnight or two.

Easy holding, first try, however there were too many crab pots to get anywhere near the shore or 10ft. Depth. Had to anchor in 13ft with no wind protection for the night. Rocky and rough all night. Marina is nice and friendly, no restaurant left as of 2024 but a small shop for their campground. Showers and bathrooms. Pet friendly if you dinghy into the Marina, decent cell service in Bay.
