Anchored here Oct 2024 to hide from 30-37knt gusts coming from NW. Anchor dragged on the more eastern side of the bay, but easily re-anchored in sticky mud on the western side of anchorage and held for the remaining 24 hours of wind and chop. Power boats passing sailboats in the channel come too close and too fast so be prepared for large wake when navigating to the anchorage. Pier remnants not on map also in deeper water when entering river so stick to the channel or navigate by day. Well lighted buoys and enough room for lots of boats to anchor though we were the only one. No shore access, possibly a beach, but looks like private property. Would return for an overnight or two.

It was a calm night so holding no problem. Verizon cell coverage was good. No other boats and little/no traffic. Good protection from South and you can go right across river for protection from North.

Holding was good in sticky mud with a 5:1 scope using a 35lb Delta and 65' chain & 25-30' rode. There was hardly any wind but the current did shift directions several times over the period we anchored & we never dragged. Scenery was good and not much boat traffic with a few kayakers stopping by to say hello and a couple of fisherman. We were 1/2 mile from the channel so boat wakes were felt but not really an issue.
Beaches at this particular anchorage appear all privately owned so head up river to one without a residence if access is needed.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

Held well with ~100' of chain out during a significant thunderstorm that approached from the NW the first night. Chain and anchor hauled clean after 2 nights. Oyster bed between anchorage and western shore, shallow water, and sea grass complicate access to beach for pet relief; likely to step on oyster shells dragging dinghy to shore; bottom otherwise pleasant but water shoes recommended. Sea grass bed is marked but paths through or around not clear. Did not search for boat ramp on Cranes Creek as mentioned in another review (perhaps at LITTLE Sandy Point?) but would not typically go that far. Many sport boats and jet skis cruise through anchorage, towing skiers or towables, most courteous but some are curious and pass too close. Good location to watch Reedville 4th of July fireworks; slightly distant but the few others in anchorage were well behaved and most spent the night. Many other fireworks displays were partially visible. Verizon 4G signal 3-4 bars; no public WIFI access observed.
