Strong current held us parallel to shore. Moderate mud on anchor in the morning. BEWARE the mud flat - we were pushed onto it as we raised anchor and spent 2 hours waiting for the tide but the current continued to push us further onto the flat. Took awhile to get free. Otherwise a good spot to wait or finish Elliott Cut.

Easy in, plenty of depth and swing room (52' 4'6" draft). CQR anchor grabbed immediately. Held in the current, barely budged all night. Wish we could have stayed longer than one night. No local traffic. Anchor came up clean in the morning.

Spent 2 nights here - great dock help from Bill and staff, made the current easy. A bit out of town, but Bill arranged for an Uber ride so we could go have dinner - the restaurant near the dock is closed on Sunday and Monday. A very easy stop for fuel, pump out.

Draft: 4.6'Overall Rating:1Holding:1Wind Protection:1Current Flow:4Wake Protection:4Scenic Beauty:2Ease of Shopping:1Shore Access:1Cell Service:3We arrived early in the day with 40kts of SE wind forecast. Thought we had the CQR anchor set, but as soon as it started to blow hard we dragged. There was a catamaran anchored right in the middle who held throughout, but we spent a couple of hours re-anchoring in every possible spot and dragged each time. Finally left in the peak of the storm, figured we were safer underway.

Marina Review for Church St. Town Dock

We anchored off the docks our first night but in the morning our port engine wouldn't start, so we went over to the town dock. Be aware that this is Not a full marina; its run offsite by the parks department (with really nice staff!). There's no one to help take lines, no office or bathrooms. Aside from that, its great. New floating docks. A number of 16' slips (one 29' used by a catamaran one night, and shared by two trawlers another) plus a long T-dock. All are parallel to the strong current. Swansboro is a charming town with shops and restaurants a block away; grocery and hardware stores about a mile walk. We were there for the annual candlelight walk and the Christmas flotilla, both wonderful town celebrations. Highly recommend at least a night or two in this town.

Draft: 4.6'Overall Rating:1Holding:4Wind Protection:1Current Flow:1Wake Protection:1Scenic Beauty:1Cell Service:5WiFi:1One of our worst anchorages. Very little room for error between markers, bridge, and the uncharted submerged pilings that can be seen only at low tide, about 75-100 yards off the town docks. The bridge noise was not an issue after the live bands fired up - even with our boat completely closed up we had to raise our voices to hear each other - forget about being able to think. Avoid a Saturday night like the plague. As noted, the current runs hard here. Only redeeming aspect was our CQR anchor grabbed and held well on first try.

Free Dock Review for Mariners' Wharf, Elizabeth City

Fantastic free docking to the NORTH of the bridge. Two separate areas, the longer bulkhead immediately at the bridge and one 300 yards north of that. Bollards to tie up to, free for 48 hours, no services. Much better protection than the free docks on the south side, which are totally exposed in E wind. A 5 minute walk to town. While there try to eat at the very cool Hoppin John's - and save room for the homemade desserts. One of the best meals we've had in forever!
