There is a pretty good current flowing through there, and you are exposed to wakes from large boats going into the St. John's Marina. Can be a little noisy from traffic on the bridge as well. Not sure if you can get your access through the marina or not so I don't know about shore access, don't have a pet so I wasn't worried about that.

Just up the Stono River from St. John's Yacht Harbor Marina and one mile from the entrance to the Cut, the anchorage offers good protection from wind and waves from all directions except the Northeast and the South where there is sufficient fetch to create some bounce. The best anchoring depths are occupied by an army of crab pots so be prepared to anchor in 16 feet or more mlw with a six foot tide to add to your anchor scope calculations. We ended up anchoring in 23 foot of water and let out 120 feet of chain. The anchor held immediately and did not budge during our stay with west winds to 15 mph and a strong reversing tidal current tugging at the anchor. In the morning the chain came up clean and the anchor had a large amount of clay to be washed off. There are some big boats transiting the Stono River and there were several who seemed oblivious of the No Wake Zone. As usual, darkness solved the problem and we spent a comfortable night with mild winds continuing from the west. Tidal current depends on where you are anchored: the further away you get from the protection of the inside corner, the stronger the tide becomes. We experienced currents of about 2 mph which kept the boat aligned properly. Shore access is not obvious. We did not try to go ashore and did not ask the St. Johns Yacht Harbor Marina if we could land our dinghy. Cellular reception was fair for T-Mobile and good for ATT and Verizon.

Strong current held us parallel to shore. Moderate mud on anchor in the morning. BEWARE the mud flat - we were pushed onto it as we raised anchor and spent 2 hours waiting for the tide but the current continued to push us further onto the flat. Took awhile to get free. Otherwise a good spot to wait or finish Elliott Cut.
