Honor the point that sticks out just before the anchorage and find no less than 9' MLW at the anchorage icon with good holding in mud. Our chain and anchor needed a good spray as we hauled it up in the morning. There are still wakes from passing heavy traffic but the anchorage is protected from the NE around to the SW winds and waves. It is also far enough off the channel that the tidal changes are minimized. We barely swung with the tides. Cell reception is good.
The anchorage icon is just outside the beach exclusion area so do not anchor inside the icon. Watercraft are not allowed on the swimming area or within 750 feet of the beach. As a point of reference, the anchorage icon is about 900 feet off the beach so you are legal as long as you even with or outside that mark. Cellphone reception was very good. We were here mid-week at the beginning of October and this was an excellent choice for us. Mid-summer on a lovely weekend would probably be a cause for further consideration. The nice thing is that the mudflat is large and the boat concentration seems to be close to the beach. A half mile move might be worth considering under those circumstances. Protection might be less but the characteristics and depths of this very large mud flat remain similar.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

Good wind protection from winds out of the south. Good holding in 8' with a mud bottom. We were there on a week day and there were only 2 boats in the anchorage overnight. Wakes from boats going up and down the are felt in the anchorage (this is true of most marinas and anchorages along the Hudson.

Even on a weekend with locals there is a park with trails and swim area. you can take the dinghy to the left side away from the park and bring chairs. we sat under the shade.

Open bay for other directions but rock isn't too bad unless it's a strong blow. Good holding, a beach available, no small boats allowed. We held up here for a night as a quick western wind came through. Our anchor held well in a thick muck.

Although you can't take a motorized dinghy to the shore by the swimming area, you can beach the dinghy east of the area beyond the swimming signs. It's protected from the south and east but wakes are plentiful during the day, especially on weekends.
