Rochester, NY
Rochester is the largest American city on Lake Ontario. The beautiful hills of Rochester are the result of retreating ice sheets during the Pleistocene period. The ice sheets reached a standstill at what is now the southern border of the city. Because the ice melted at the same rate as the sheet’s advancement, sediment was deposited along its edge and created the line of west to east hills–Mt. Hope, Highland Park, Pinnacle Hill and Cobbs Hill.
