Limited info, but well organized and very helpful in route planning

I’ve used this book for planning and traveling in the western rivers southward.?I keep the book open at the helm and follow along, flipping pages as we go so that I am aware of what is nearby and coming up soon.?Highly recommended.

Pros

- Laid out in logical travel order, with river chart number and river miles stated for each place discussed. Assuming southward travel, you can simply start following along and turn pages as you go.

- Good listing of anchorages which is particularly helpful. You can find info on marinas and locks elsewhere, but Skipper Bob excels in calling out anchorages, plus putting it all (anchorages, marinas, locks) in travel order as you work your way down the river system.

- Calls out some highlights along the way or landmarks to look out for.

Cons

- Very simple presentation with limited info.

- Nothing in the book gets more than about 3 or 4 sentences. For more detail, you will need to check Loopers Companion (recommended) or Waterway Guide (also recommended).

What a Help

The Skipper Bob guide makes easy work of contacting lift bridges, marinas, and locks. With VHF channels, Phone numbers, and the like listed, reaching these people became much easier. With this info at your finger tips rather than trying to google search, when cell reception is sketchy at best, was a great help. loved it.

A detailed and useful guide, used by me and many Loopers. Includes details of anchorages, which is essential information for some sections of the river system, as the distances between marinas mean anchoring is necessary.
