Due to the size of the bay, wind protection from every direction except SE is fairly poor. It's particularly bad from the north. If strong north wind and waves are up near Charlevoix, expect the swell to reach this anchorage. We spent one night here then moved to the west side of the same bay and it wasn't much better. Due to anchoring in 12 feet with 8:1 scope we had no holding issues even with 3 foot swell and 30 knot gusts. My advice would be spend your time in the west bay for all factors involved.

Anchoring here is good but a bit tricky. The shoreline goes from 10-12 feet to 35 feet very quickly. To let out ample scope for S or W wind you risk grounding if the wind shifts N or E. We set a second bow anchor on short rode for that scenario. It did not occur and we had SW for 48 hrs. Two other sailboats reset during their stay, may have been dragging but don't know. S wind blew gusts to 30 knots so be advised protection from S and W is adequate but not great. Island itself is gorgeous and well worth a day or two. Very few people.

Not well protected from wind except from the east. We anchored toward the southeast corner, depth 15 feet, 5:1 scope, held well in 15kt from S and SW, zero chop. 47' boat w/Viking 15 anchor. Easy 12 minute dinghy ride to town.

Deeper anchorage than I like @30 feet but plenty of room to swing with 5:1 scope (granted no other boats here). For context, using a Viking 15 on our 47 foot sailboat. Held solid through several 25-30 knot gusts on the anemometer. Can't comment on wake protection, too early in the season for those folks to be out. Would go 5 stars but fairly far from town (~12 minutes by dinghy at 10 knots).
