Bridge clearance in end of july 2022 (at low water level) was 38'. Call the lock master to confirm water level. Inside the lock there's a flotting dock on the south wall (port side if you are going up) that you tie up to with cleats or you will be tied up on shoulder to an other boat. The staff will help you and collect the money there (1$/foot in 2022). The staff on #68 will direct you. Before the locking, you call them on vhf or go wait on the blue line on the north side if you are going up.

The marina is close to Aldi and Wallgreen for provisioning, but its also close to the highway and the train and yes it does blow its whistle. So not that quiet, but its not expensive and it does have services (water, 30/50 amp, pump-out, toillets and showers). Notthing fancy about the showers, but they work. Nice bicycle path just beside the marina alongside the canal.

All the good spaces were taken on the east side of bridge so we went on the west side north wall with NW winds was a bit rocky, but notthing to make you spill your coffee and just reminds you you are in a boat????. There's a nice beach not far from there and water was warm mid july. There's an ice cream place with more then 50 flavors thats good on the main street and the melon salad at the lake house restaurant was really good and special. The amusement park was closed when we where there on a wednesday, but the arcade was open till 9pm.

Beautiful views of mountains, bridge and Sing Sing prison. We were there on a monday and saw very little boat trafic exept for the ferry. There's a lot of trains, but they dont seem to make a lot of noise(didn't bother us). We are anchored a bit south of the anchoring mark in what is charted as 8' but its more like 6'. We tried to go closer to the mark, but we where at high tide(+2,5) and saw only 6 so we turned around and went to the charted 8 feet. Saw no mooring balls here. Theres some close to the marinas but not in the anchorage. Seem to have good holding in mud, but we didn't have strong winds. Went to the marina close by to get diesel and they let us tie our dingy for provisionning since it was the end of the day (maybe we where just lucky, but ask before you do it). P. S. the diesel there is street diesel not marine.

Felt like I was a bum, because I did't want to pay 35$ for a 12 pack of yuengling and 20$ for 10 gallons of city water... I stayed polite and just payed for my little Jerrycan of diesel and left. I should of gone accoss the basin to the other marina.

Came here to dodge thunderstorms and 30 kts south winds felt like 15 kts, holding is strong with 20 pds rocna. It is a detour is you are doing the loop. Almost no service from T-Mobile.

Great free dingy dock near town dock and nice little parc with trash and recycling cans. Marinas around won't let anchored boaters use their facilities even for a fee unless you bring your boat to their marina. No cell service with T-mobile so used the library's wifi. Good homemade food (Hatteras style clam chowder, sweet tea and salad dressing) at good price at the Fish Hook Café and cheap burritos at El Mariachi. Holding seemed ok but didn't have strong winds. Anchor and chain came up very muddy.

Agree with previous reviews, but would like to add that the Southport raw bar has excellent food and drinks and the prices are really good. It cost 10$ to dock your dingy there, but they credit it on your bill if you eat or drink there in the same day. There's a Winn-Dixie just across the street from raw bar and we've been told by a local that there's a laudry mat behind Winn-Dixie. There's also a Publix, Ace hardware and losts of restaurants in a shopping mall close by. P. S. There's and Amazon hub in that mall. Only downside right now is that there's construction noise during day time because there's 3 new houses being build.
