Nav Alert comment on NC: Alligator Pungo Canal MM 124.6 Stump
Comment by: Roger Long, Gypsy Star, on Feb 22, 2025
Vessel Type: Power
LOA: 43'
Draft: 4.0'I think this report may point out the dangers of the increasingly popular "Bob Tracking" navigation. Although Bob's research and tracks are invaluable in trouble spots, following them is not necessary on about 95% of the ICW. This accident could have happened almost anywhere on the Alligator Pongo Canal with a report like this eventually being posted about every 100 feet. GPS will occasionally be off by as much as 30 feet and maintaining constant vigilance of the banks ahead and keeping to the center of the channel is essential to safe navigation of this cut. Eyes down on the chart plotter as I see so many boaters doing as they pass can distract from navigational ''"Job One" in places like this.

Marina Review for Yankee Point Marina

We found this place by the accident of running over a deadhead tree up the Rappahannock River and taking out two props, a shaft, and a strut. After about 40,000 miles of cruising, I’ve had boats repaired in a few places so I can make this a simple review. It doesn’t get any better than this. Old time service, integrity, and attention to detail. It is the first time I was ever surprised by a boatyard bill because it was so low. The marina itself is worth the run up the river. The on-site restaurant is run by a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and your taste buds will jump to attention at what looks like ordinary waterfront café food. Ignore the grouser’s review below. The one who called it the “gem of the Chesapeake” got it right.
