We found this place by the accident of running over a deadhead tree up the Rappahannock River and taking out two props, a shaft, and a strut. After about 40,000 miles of cruising, I’ve had boats repaired in a few places so I can make this a simple review. It doesn’t get any better than this. Old time service, integrity, and attention to detail. It is the first time I was ever surprised by a boatyard bill because it was so low. The marina itself is worth the run up the river. The on-site restaurant is run by a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and your taste buds will jump to attention at what looks like ordinary waterfront café food. Ignore the grouser’s review below. The one who called it the “gem of the Chesapeake” got it right.

BEWARE: TOTAL RIP OFF!!! We rented their only boat for a week for an exorbitant amount of money. When we returned the boat and tied it up to the dock, the lady walked up and said that we have to take the boat back out of the boat slip and top the oil off, fill it with gas ourselves (when we wanted to pay them to fuel it up) and wash the boat with a hose around back!! When you rent a car, they don't make you fill the car with oil and wash it before returning it!! The service and experience was disappointing, to say the least. We also visited their restaurant upstairs, "Windows on the Water" on the 4th of July for dinner. We were there, sitting at our table, for 3 hours, and I N-E-V-E-R received my dinner!! They just allowed me to sit there and watch the other people at our table eat their appetizers (ours never arrived) and eat their meals, while I had nothing to eat. They brought the check and had nothing more to offer than, "we're having problems with the kitchen" as to why refills on drinks never happened, our appetizer never arrived, and I went hungry. THIS PLACE WAS HORRIBLE...for renting a boat for a family vacation and trying to support the local economy further by having a meal at their restaurant. All they did was take our money for awful service and lazy people who want you to wash their boat that WE paid to rent!?

    WG Editor Comment:
    Marina Response:

Yankee Point Marina is proud of our history of total customer satisfaction. Occasionally we will encounter a situation where the Customer feels he or she has been wronged and we try to resolve these to the Customer's Satisfaction. In the case of the recent customer complaint, The Rental Agreement, signed by the respondent, states that the rental includes the cost of the boat and motor rental "plus the cost of fuel and oil consumed during the rental" if the renter did not want to fuel the boat, the staff would have readily done it but they would have had to charge for that service. It is our policy to try to help the customer keep their costs down. Additionally, under the Damage Deposit clause "Additionally, the Damage Deposit shall cover any costs of cleanup including watercraft wash down and the removal of trash or garbage from the watercraft at the conclusion of the rental period."

Our staff suggested that to eliminate that charge all the customer had to do was to spray the boat off with water.

Regarding your experience at Windows on the Water. We are aware of issues from the night you were here and the issues are being addressed internally. We sincerely apologize for that experience and if you would give us a second chance, we would be more than happy to comp your next meal.

The marina is a clean, well run operation. Not only are the piers and grounds clean and well maintained, it has a well-stocked ship’s store, an excellent restaurant above the ship’s store, a great little café beside the saltwater pool, clean and well maintained restrooms with showers, not to mention the excellent and friendly service from Ken and Karen and their staff. I had my Bristol 39 restored by Yankee Point this past spring and could not be happier with the results. Ken and crew did a thorough job and throughout the project, Ken kept me appraised of progress almost daily through emails and pics and immediately notified me of any issues found. The care and craftsmanship of their work was superb. I have had many compliments on the results and would strongly recommend Yankee Point for any work. In fact, I have just sailed her back to Yankee Point to have some additional work done. As far as I'm concerned, Yankee Point is the crown jewel of Chesapeake Bay Marinas.
