11/28/21 passed under this fixed bridge at 1050, 1.5 hours after low tide. Height board heading south; didn't notice if one is for NB vessels. Cleared with 65' mast. If you must wait heading south there are two nice floating docks to pull over to and wait tide change.

The new 65' bridge is great. The currents are quite strong and if there's a wind it makes docking a challenge.

Good holding. 4 other boats anchored here. Easy access to Harbor Cove Restaurant and Bar to tie up dinghy. Best to eat there or pay at the Marina office for dinghy dock use. They have gas & diesel. Good food at restaurant. Took Uber to Marine Connection Liquidators 1.5 miles away. Also a Publix grocery store .5 miles away.

Do not hang out in the restricted waters by the port or you’ll get a visit from the port patrol. Communicate with bridge tenders and they’ll tell you where to wait that is safe and out of port traffic.

Bridge comment on US 17/NC 55 Bridge

We were a bit concerned as we approached this bridge as we didn’t have local tide charts and we have a 65’ mast. There was only a 7 knot wind and there are water level boards on north & south bridge approaches although the 66’ marker is a bit hard to read (water stained).
We anchored between the NC 55 bridge and the Alfred Cunningham bascule bridge (N35*, 5.991; W77*, 2.125) in 7-10 knot winds. Good holding and traffic noise was not an issue. Airport is close by. The 3 day-use only piers are gone & construction barges there so we tied dinghy up at New Bern Grand Marina Yacht Club, a secure area. We did not find a good Public dinghy tie up area. Maybe later in 2020.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

We approached this bridge heading north at low tide (0.4’ & 15 mins after the low for New River Inlet). Current still going out and bridge marker (markers on north & southbound sides) showed 64’6”. We made it but antenna touched undersides of bridge. Our mast plus antenna is 65’.

Excellent holding and wind protection, current is gentle here. Occasional boat traffic so wake is noticeable at times, we are a cat so not as severe as a monohull and some boaters slow down, some don’t. We entered at low tide so a shallow entrance at curve; stay closer to docks. Anchored in 8’ of water at low tide. T-Mobile cell service is 3 bars. We are not going ashore but would go to public beach as original poster suggests.

We spent 3 nights here and thoroughly enjoyed this Marina. We have a 19’9” beam so we stuck out in the canal a bit on the T dock but always felt very safe from passing boats. The facilities here are very clean and well appointed. Great pool, single larger capacity washer and dryer, nice showers, and a secure facility. We parked our rental car in the lot next door. Drove our daughter to Wilmington Int’l. Airport 20-25 miles away. Very good service from management. We would definitely stay here again. FYI - No fuel available.

Enjoyed our week here very much. Good clean facilities (showers, most inexpensive DIY laundry and good machines we’ve found, parking). Very nice personnel (Paul and Lem). They provide a covered, outdoor community kitchen. 10% Discount at Hurricane Patti’s Restaurant. Local folks here are very nice people. Calm waters, no wake zone.
