You will swing 180 degrees with tide change. Park is nice with old fort ruins and nice visitor center. Dinghy dock in mud within two hours of low tide. If coming from the north, the entrance to the creek was shallower than our Garmin indicated. We came through at mid-tide ( approx +3') and saw 7 feet depth.

We came in from the north end of the river, winding our way down to the fort. We dropped anchor in the bend of the river on the park side between the ruins of the port and the dinghy dock. Good holding, calm water, very little other traffic so no wake issues. The dinghy dock is just as others have said: you really can't bring a dinghy in within an hour or two of low tide. Coming to shore (instead of the dock) with a dinghy is a bad idea because the ground there is all mud. Still, we got to shore twice with my pups to explore the historic site and take a hike. There were quite a few tourists in the area, but it was not crowded and the loop trail through the woods was mostly empty. (Be aware that ticks are a problem so check yourself and your dogs.) We did not see any Rangers at all. We were the only boat at that anchorage. A good, peaceful stop.

We typically anchor to the west of the fort but there is space to the south as well. While there is very little fetch in this area there isn't a lot of wind protection from any direction except E. There is also a lot of current and unless there is significant wind you will point into the current which will keep you centered in the channel.
The park is really nice for a walk, and we enjoyed the ranger talk. The dock to get to shore is only available mid-tide and higher. Be careful you don't get stranded at low because there are several feet of mud exposed between the river and the ladder at low tide.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

We ducked in to this spot from the north ICW access on the Frederica River. Great spot to anchor next to the park. At low tide you can't get to shore, but otherwise there is a really small dock with a ladder. We will stop again.

The assistant superintendent welcomes folks that are anchored nearby and pointed out that there is what he called a dinghy dock on the property. It is actually a manual lift for kayaks but can be used if you were careful about the tide rising and falling. It has a ladder. I have taken my dog numerous times and just clean up after her. She weighs only 30 pounds so I can lift her to the dock if the tide is 1/2 or more. It is a beautiful place with wonderful old oak trees and there is a museum and docets that will tell you all about the history.

We anchored farther up, past the fort. No boats went by so no wakes. Current did NOT reverse during that week. Anchor set well and came up clean. Will do this again.
