Description:
Located about 6nm south of Boat Harbour Marina in Marsh Harbour, Snake Cay is the site of an old commercial wharf that was used to ship lumber out of Abaco until the late 1950’s. Today it is abandoned, but the rusty carcasses of railcars that were used to house the workers remain. For those wanting to explore the area or simply looking for a quiet place to spend the night Snake Cay is worth a look.

The old wharf is in a sad state but provides good protection from S-SW-W. Any wind with an Easterly component leaves one very close to a Lee shore and we had to move after an early evening unexpected wind shift. Beware the "patches" of sand as most are hard marl. Better holding in the weedy patches paradoxically.
The dinghy ride is interesting though many parts very shallow past the main channel. Surprisingly, our only mangrove dinghy ride in the Abacos where we saw no turtles, rays etc.

We found good holding here with our Mantus M2 in 10 feet of water. Dinghied through the mangroves and saw 50+ turtles. Good Anchorage in S through N winds.
