We spent 2 nights in Herb Creek. There is a strong current as the tide goes in and out, and not much wind protection. However, our anchor held well in 15-20 ft of water and came up with only a small amount of mud. Up the creek from where we anchored there are several neighborhoods. We were there over the weekend and had quite a bit of boat traffic in and out of the area. Had we anchored a little closer to the "No Wake Zone" we would have had less boat chop. We enjoyed the dolphins playing around the boat and watching the birds diving for fish.

Turn south into Herb River at AICW Mile Marker 584.2 and Green "37" in 18 feet of water mlw and proceed up towards the inhabited area, anchoring in 15 feet mlw at least 150 feet short of the personal docks as required by Georgia State Law. Holding was excellent and the anchor came up clean in the morning. Remember that there is a 7 foot tidal range here so provide sufficient scope for high water and to ensure holding in the 2 mph current that runs through this anchorage. You will swing north and south with the tide. There is very little traffic on the river in the evening and none at night. Be mindful of the crab pot locations when selecting where to drop your hook as they do not move with the tide. Good wind protection. Excellent cell service. No immediate shore access but there are two marinas just across the AICW that might be let you use their facilities.

November 3 2021 went up river through no wake zone and anchored between end of zone and bend. This kept us more than 150' from any docks with swing on the anchor. Winds were NE around 10. Good holding on first try no issues with current switches. Strong cell and tv signals. Waking was not a big issue but some wakes from inconsiderable boaters. We were in between two other anchored boats one in no wake area the other just around the bend maybe 1250 feet. Had restful night and left in the morning.

Anchored here on a Thursday night. Local boaters respectful with wake. Mantus 40-lb anchor set on first try closer to high tide with depths of 20+. Held all night despite initial winds of 20 knots tapered to 5. In clear view of Thunderbolt Marina but did not go ashore. Restful night. Beautiful tidal marsh. Noted on course to revisit on return south.

Anchored here Oct 30 2020, 44 foot trawler with 60 lb Bruce Anchor. Went past No Wake Zone just around bend between two far apart docks for shallower water in center. Anchored mid-tide in 10 feet of water, with expected tide increase of ~4 feet. Water showed deeper that charted depths in entire portion of river we went through. Large Thunderbolt Marina building and tree line provided some wind break. Anchor grabbed first back down and held all night, came up very clean just a little gray mud/clay. Was a Friday night, local boaters mostly courteous. It was a cool evening and morning the next day so not a lot of recreational boaters, mostly local fishing boats. Did not try to go ashore for dog or shopping, no opinion on those options. Will use this anchorage again.

We stayed here for a week to catch up on maintenance. A 45-foot trawler with four foot draft using a 20 kg Bruce anchor. Anchor set immediately on the first try and held us here for a week of current shifts and winds up to 15 knots. Scenery was nice with high grass marshes as far as you can see and you could see over them at high tide and they blocked everything at low tide. Will definitely stop by here again. Easy dinghy ride over to Hogan's Marina adjacent to a Publix market, nice restaurant and both medical and dental facilities right there for Cruisers.
