Description:
This is a shallow basin with good wind protection from the NE through SW. Open to the West and North. Average depth is about 6 feet. Good holding in grass and sand with the right anchor. The Ocean View Restaurant has a small boat dock that they let anyone use to eat at the restaurant or go get supplies. One of the few places that will let you dock a dinghy in Islamorada.
NOTE: Per Florida Statute 327.4109

The owner or operator of a vessel or floating structure may not anchor or moor such that the nearest approach of the anchored or moored vessel or floating structure is:
1. Within 150 feet of any marina, boat ramp, boatyard, or other vessel launching or loading facility;
2. Within 300 feet of a superyacht repair facility. For purposes of this subparagraph, the term "superyacht repair facility" means a facility that services or repairs a yacht with a water line of 120 feet or more in length; or
3. Within 100 feet outward from the marked boundary of a public mooring field or a lesser distance if approved by the commission upon request of a local government within which the mooring field is located. The commission may adopt rules to implement this subparagraph.

This is an anchorage with several permanent boats moored. The bottom provides good holding and we stuck firm in 24 knot wind directly out of the West where there is very little protection. With a multi-day West wind we would have anchored on the North-West side of the anchorage to cut down on the bouncing. The best thing about this anchorage is the shore access provided by the Ocean View Restaurant. Good bar and food at this Restaurant and you can dock your dinghy here for free and use FreeBee to get to the stores for supplies.
