Came from the north. Used the Middle Ground cut. 7 feet depth. Lots of pots but easy to spot an hour before sunset. Once through the cut there are less pots. The hook set and came up easy. Winds were 15kt NE and died throughout the night. Calm anchorage.

Surprisingly good anchorage once dodging all the crab pots. There was decent wind protection from the quadrant north through East. but any other direction would likely be uncomfortable We anchored in 8 feet. The anchor set quickly and came up clean.

We approached the anchorage via the Middle Ground "Inlet" which saves some time coming from Albermarle Sound but 6'8" with NE wind.
Island gives nice protection from fetch but allows wind to keep the bugs down (we anchored just inside the 5'9"line but still in 9'.)
If unsettled weather or S winds, would prefer South or East Lake anchorages. Great sunset view, lots of room between the crab floats.

There are too many crab pots here, we found a space in between all of them and set anchor. Later on the wind picked up from the south and we had to move. Moved to the anchor further "South Lake" with no crab pots at all and really good protection

We stopped here before crossing the Albemarle Sound, we had good protection from NE winds,, there were a few fishing boats passing by but they didn't come close to us. There is a public boat ramp around the point that you can land the dogs if you like,, just a short dinghy ride.

Stopped here with wind out of the NE at 11 mph. Moved in close to shore with smooth night. Anchor came up clean and then northbound across the Sound.

It's just a place to stop. Beware of "fuzzy bills" during the season. I stopped here once and woke up to a boat covered with thousands of dead fuzzy bills leaving a green slime that took hours to clean off. They look just like mosquitoes but don't bite.

Good shelter of NE winds and a decent ATT cell phone signal (LTE). A lot of crab pots so be careful.
