Do not enter the harbor from the west end without local knowledge. There is a sandy beach where you can walk a dog. The marina has an excellent dingy dock (good for taking pets ashore). Directions to the dingy dock: follow the channel toward the fuel dock; turn to port just before the fuel dock, the dingy dock will be on your.port. The anchorage has good holding with a mud bottom. Anchorage has great protection from a Southerland wind and protection from the north from the breakwater. Wakes enter the anchorage from boats going from Atlantic Highlands to Atlantic.

Very convenient town access. We didn't find the anchorage too rolly, and the power boats were almost all considerate of their wakes. Note: the downtown Laundromat is gone. Short walk up to groceries, restaurants, and bus to NYC Port Authority station.

Good holding in mud. Dinghy dock at municipal marina was convenient for shopping and laundry. Wakes are really bad especially when the ferries are running.

We anchored in 17 ft of water with a 155kg Rocna and 180 feet of chain.Good holding in mud. The rating would be higher except for the local traffic which seemed to want to see how close they could get to our boat while they buzzed us at full speed. We were there on a Friday.

The boats coming in to the marina seem to be oblivious to the anchored and moored boats, so there's a bit of wake.
Cell coverage for AT&T and T-Mobile are superb. I just had the fastest T-Mobile speed test of my life. Over 220mbit download. What-the-what!?!
The dingy docks seem to be pull out and store for reservation holders only, but there was a reservation holder there working on his dinghy when we motored up. He said to tie behind a particular dinghy that was ... disused ... There is probably somewhere better to be taking the dinghy.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

The 6 ft line shown on charts is accurate (I sounded the area in my dinghy). You can take your pet to either the beach by the anchorage or into shore by the second fairway after the fuel dock.
