The downtown district of Manitowoc is on both sides of the river at the 8th Street Bridge, a few blocks from Manitowoc Marina. Plenty of restaurants, shops and town services are available. There is a popular Farmers’ Market Tuesdays and Saturdays near the Public Library at the bridge. There is also a first-run movie theater a short walk from the marina.

Be sure to visit the Wisconsin Maritime Museum (920-684-0218) and its star attraction, the Gato class submarine U.S.S. Cobia, the nation’s most complete World War II submarine restoration including the oldest working radar in the world. The museum, one of the largest and best maritime museums in the nation, is affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution. For outdoor recreation check out the Mariners Trail stretching 13 miles from Manitowoc to Two Rivers.
