The most densely developed stretch of the Tenn-Tom, the River Section, is 149 miles long and includes four locks and dams.
To create this stretch a channel 9 feet deep and 300 feet wide was dredged in the Tombigbee River and more than 30 cutoffs were constructed to eliminate many severe bends.
