Starting down the mighty Mississippi River, you will be running along a national scenic byway known as the Great River Road. The high bluffs are a noted dramatic feature and a pleasant change of scenery.
The Mississippi River runs, in total, for over 1700 navigable miles from Minneapolis, MN to New Orleans, LA. For navigation purposes it is divided into two parts, upper and lower.
Great Loopers leave the Illinois River and join the Upper Mississippi River at Mile 218 then travel south to Mile 0, passing through two locks, before joining the Ohio River.
