Lake Champlain. NY

Lake Champlain. NY

For scenic beauty and historic richness, Lake Champlain and its canals and waterways offer a splendid cruising ground virtually unmatched anywhere.

Construction of the Champlain Canal connecting the Hudson River with the lake was started in 1792. This construction was followed in 1833 by the construction of the Chambly Canal, which bypassed the unnavigable portions of the Richelieu River to the Bassin de Chambly. The Chambly Canal opened in 1843 and played an important economic role transporting Quebec forest products to the U.S. market.

Today this route is used primarily by pleasure boaters and is one of the more unique cruising areas.
