Stopped at the Athens Free Dock today. It was Athens Community Day at the park
Lots going on: face painting for kids, sailboat ride, free ice-cream, small critters to look at and hold, etc. Nice metal floating dock. Clearly marked no overnight docking. We saw several places to eat near the park. Not many stores in the downtown area.

Great little dock, in a cute, little, quiet town on the river. Park was well kept as were the new aluminum floating docks. Not a lot going on in town but the few things that were open were great. No convenience or grocery stores close by but the view made up for it perfect place to wake up. Park had port a pottys, but no restrooms.

We loved our stay at the Athens free dock. The park is full of life. In the summer they have live music every Friday night. Pizza from Stella's by the park is cheap, huge and very delicious. No power or water. Stayed here for two nights because Waterford was closed for 3 days for a dragon boat festival.

We came in to the Athens Free Dock in the middle of the day for lunch and to wait for the turn of the tide to flood before heading further up the river. The 80' long aluminum floating dock was in good shape and had 12' MLW depth at dockside. It is obvious that the village has invested in park and dock renovations; everything was in good shape and well taken care of. It was Monday but Stella's Restaurant, across from the dock was open and the weather was nice enough to have lunch in the park. We had a chance to walk around town and there were several interesting restaurants and shops that we would have loved to go into but most of the stores this early in the season were open Thursday through Sunday. The tide changed and we were back on our way north after a very pleasant three hours ashore.

There are prominent signs on the dock that say "No Overnight Docking" but there are reports from boats that have spent the night on the dock and have not been bothered. We had anchored out but there was a 45' boat that had spent the night on the dock with no issues. The dock has a smaller indented section on the south end of the pier that is used by the Hudson Ferry. Do not tie up there. Cell service is very good for the major carriers.

Great location with new aluminum docks. Convenience store a short walk. As others have stated signage says no overnight but spoke with locals and local police and they've stated that there's normally no issues with staying a night as long as no one is making any disturbances. Would highly recommend this place and the town.

Free dock fits two boats. Signage stating no overnight docking. Next to park. Walking distance to small town with a few restaurants and convenience store.

Wonderful new aluminum floating dock about 80 ft. In a cute city park with benches and band stand. Beautiful flower boxes. A cute village with well kept homes.
