It is a beautiful area with good fishing that is far enough from the ICW (also known as the miserable mile as boat traffic is horrendous near Ft Myers). It is beat to anchor farther east of the point indicated in 8-10 feet of water and closer to the Tarpon Bay entrance. There's is much roll there.

Holding was good and never saw less than 7 feet of depth. Not protected from anything but a west wind. Surprisingly little wake despite a lot of day time small boat traffic in the nearby channel. I saw no moorings in the area. Dock and dinghy access to the island is easy and they have tours of a structure on the island. This was one of the prettiest anchorages we stayed at in the Keys. We looked at anchoring on the north and west sides of the island boat fishing boat traffic is heavy.

Anchorage Review for Big Marco River

The holding is excellent despite a fairly strong current, which can cause the boat to point in opposition to the wind. Despite being close to the entrance channel there is little wake. There is a dinghy dock directly across the channel at the Snook Inn, which has excellent food and live music. There is a grocery store within walking distance.

Holding and water depth are good and surprisingly well protected for the nearby ICW. Great place to rest after transitting the miserable mile.

The path coming in is narrow and shallow in places. I do not recall a place to land a dingy in the anchorage but there are some small mangrove beach areas nearby.

It is well protected and has excellent holding. I have anchored here dozens of times in all kinds of weather without problem. I have seen more than 60 boats in this area with room to swing. The north end of Cayo Costa is a State park with dock, bathroom facilities and a small store for ice, bait and snacks. There is a tram to take you to the gulf side and beaches. There are also miles of walking paths.
