Sioux Harbor is a combined sail and power boat marina with moderate service levels. The marina is closely tied to the Portage des Sioux community and has a laid back vibe going on. No fuel but there is a cleanout dock at the end of the sailboat slips. I park a sailboat there and love it.

Anchorage Review for Portage Island

Draft: 4.5'Overall Rating:3Holding:4Wind Protection:3Current Flow:3Wake Protection:4Scenic Beauty:4Ease of Shopping:1Shore Access:2Pet Friendly:1Cell Service:2WiFi:1So...Portage island is located across Portage Slough from a marina named Sioux Harbor and just off the main channel of the Mississippi River north of Alton, IL. The island is uninhabited by humans. You may be able to beach on the island with a mid-draft stern-drive, etc. Sailors need to dingy to shore. At normal levels the depth is about 10 feet or less. Be watchful for floating debris. Mosquito screens are a must. The slough both north and south of this anchorage averages 15 feet to gain access to the main channel; north toward Grafton, IL and the Illinois/Mississippi confluence or south toward Alton, IL and Lock 26, Melvin Price Lock and Dam.
