Just north of Red "188" turn east into the marked channel on the south side of Causeway Island and continue beyond the position of Red "4" (which was not present) to anchor in a pocket of 8 – 10 water mlw. We have stayed at Causeway Island R4 before and had a good night. From past experience be aware that, at the back of the pocket, depth decreases very fast so make sure that you have enough room to the south when you drop your anchor. There was an anchored sailboat at the mouth of the pocket so we simply moved 200 yards east and dropped anchor in 20 feet of water with plenty of swing room in all directions and well clear of the easts/west travel way and the shallow water to the south. The anchorage "R4" actually connects with the Island Causeway Anchorage "G9" further east to make a single anchorage that provides room for eight to ten 40+ ' boats with adequate swing room for all. Holding was excellent on 100+ feet of chain. There is a moderate tidal current that runs through the area so be prepared to swing. Holding was good and the anchor came up with no mud or sand but with the chain covered in filamented seaweed that took a while to clean off. Wake protection is good but every once and a while a boat will come through at speed to annoy those anchored. Wind and wave protection is excellent for north winds, good for winds from the east or west, and fair from the south as the fetch is long. I would not consider the anchorage with 20+ mph winds from this direction. Cell signal was good for the big three. Shore access is possible at the Causeway Cove Marina or across the ICW at the Fort Pierce City Marina where there are several restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance.

Overnight stop on the ICW - good holding w5:1 scope; little to no passing traffic.

Great for N or E winds. If you drag you may ground on shallow sand bar to south.
