It was my first time setting an anchor and snubber in 10 degree F weather, and quite unpleasant. It's not the anchorage's fault that it was colder 'n' peedoodle, though.
The hook bounced a couple of times, but eventually dug in, and even though there was a fairly stiff west wind, the current kept us pointed upstream.
There was zero river traffic due to the low bridge upstream. I don't know the specifics, but from where I was standing, only a bass boat could have gotten under it. Downstream mariners will have to go past the island and then come back up to the anchorage. Highly recommended for an overnight stop, but unless you like solitude, it's no place to spend your vacation.-
WG Editor Comment:
The low bridge is not in the navigation channel.

Urban area so good cell service. Plenty of depth and swinging room. Current holds you in place. Well protected from the river. We did have a lot of hydrilla on the bridle and anchor chain in the morning, but this could have been due to high waters and releases from upstream dams after the hurricane.
