1 15 2024 AKA "South of Nuke". Anchored here using Navionics on my I pad to find best water in. Pretty much came in straight East from R210. Lowest was 6' on way in rest 7-8'. Very good holding in sandy bottom. A couple of crab pots in area. WX was forecast for winds around 11 ish out of NE then E then SE for the night. Let out 7 to 1 scope and held fast first try. Around 9 pm wind started clocking out from NE to 33 mph plus then shifted out of E then SE. Varying down to 20ish and back up into thirties for about an hour. Diminished slowly after that . Rocna Anchor held fast no problem. Since we were close to shore waves were not uncomfortable. But not what was forecast. Winds from S, W, N would have a lot of fetch so only in low winds from those directions would we anchor here

This was the wrong anchorage for a night with winds coming out of the south and then west. Lots of wind-driven waves across the bay. Wake was minimal because of our distance from the channel -- we went very close to shore to be able to dinghy in with my pups. Getting to shore with a dog was okay at low to mid tide, but the beach got very small at high tide. The park across the road is signed NO DOGS (as is most of Florida's parks and beaches). We walked over for a look at the ocean and found a mostly empty beach with more than its fair share of washed up trash. Lots of car, truck, and motorcycle noise on a Sunday afternoon and evening from the road nearby. Anchor alarm at about 3 AM was probably caused by the anchor dragging due to high winds but it reset itself about 15 feet away; we had plenty of rode out for the 8 feet we were anchored in. My companion hated this anchorage so much that he was willing to pull anchor before dawn to move on. I won't be back and can't recommend it.

This is a great "remote" anchorage about 1.5 miles off the ICW. We were able to get within 600 ft of shoreline and still had 7+ ft MLW, so our anchor spot was much closer than the marked spot. We anchored in front of the mangroves. Excellent protection from NW to E winds. Excellent holding in muddy sand. Lots of wildlife here including many birds, fish, and dolphins. Excellent cell reception with TMobile. No open WIFI signals.

The highlight of this anchorage though is the easy access to two beach portals and nature trails. Just beach your dinghy on one of the sand beaches in front of the anchorage and walk across the street.
