This was a surprisingly good anchorage. Bashi Creek and Bashi Creek Alternate are directly across the river from each other; the creek (alternate) being on the west side and the east side the shoreline at a bend in the river. We tried the creek (alternate), but the water was low (check the water gauge at the entrance on the starboard side), and while the depth was 10-12 feet, the channel was too narrow to turn our 44-foot boat around to get back out. The opposite side was a bend in the river with 8–10-foot depth where we easily anchored along the shoreline. We put out a stern anchor, but I am not sure it was needed with the current. It was an easy dinghy ride across the river to the boat ramp at Bashi Creek to take the dogs for a walk in a very pet-friendly park area. The river traffic was light, and even with a couple of barges passing in the early evening the wake was minimal.

We planned on Bashi creek but the narrowness of it and the possible damage from tree limbs made us drop anchor at this alternative location. Dropped our anchor in 12 feet of water, about 50' from shore. Used a stern line. Our buddy boat rafted to us and dropped their anchor to help against swing. We asked a tow captain if we were good there and he said yes. We were good with his wake and two more that came through at night. The highlight was watching a tow and barge pass by at night all lite up.

We had planned to anchor at Bashi Creek, but it looked too narrow, so we anchored on the other side of the river at alternate Bashi Creek. We were in 5 feet of water with 30 feet of chain and our Rockna Vulcan held well. We used a trip line to identify our anchor location and to help bring the anchor up in case it got snagged. 2 other boats were also anchored here. We all had stern "anchors" either via stern ties to other boats or an actual anchor. We had 1-2 bars of T Mobile service. 1 tow without barges passed us in the night and we had just a slight wake.

Easy anchoring in 8' about 100' from and parallel to shore puts you well out of the channel. Had three boats there and room for as many more. We put our a stern anchor but not sure really necessary- other two did not and did not move. A mild rock from passing tows. Great access for dog at the boat ramp across the river at the entrance to Bashi Creek. A little buggy, but watched deer come down to shore in the evening and fell asleep to the chorus of crickets.

Bashi Creek is subject to so much conversation either for or against anchoring there. Across from Bashi has no such problems. It is a simple, open anchorage that is protected from tow traffic by being on the inside edge of a staple shaped turn, leaving tows off the bank in the middle of the straightaway between the two turns.

Turn in going upstream towards RDB just opposite the entrance to Bashi Creek. Move towards shore until you reach 10 foot depths 50 – 100 feet off the bank and deploy your anchor. There is sufficient current to keep you properly oriented with the river flow. You might consider a stern anchor taken into shore to keep the stern tucked in. Good holding in sandy mud. Wake protection is tolerable and wind/wave protection is good with the exception of the NE/SW axis. There is enough room for 3 – 4 good size boats in a line off the shore. Shore access is either to the RDB or over to the boat launch in Bashi Creek which gives you access to the Bashi Creek recreation area. Cell service is minimal: Verizon 0 bars, ATT and T-Mobile 2bars.
