Soft muddy bottom held well, but a very muddy anchor chain when pulling up and away. Low land shore looks watery marsh. Weak cell signal for AT&T and none for Verizon.

Anchor in mud with good holding and good wind and wave protection from all directions but the east. There is no current to speak of in the anchorage and boats will swing with the wind. Shore access is possible at a boat ramp that is off the LDB of the river about 2 miles up from the anchorage. Cell service is best described as "weak". There were nine large boats in the anchorage and there was plenty of space for more. Good water goes back further up the river than is immediately apparent. Faster boats showed respect as they passed by slowing down to minimize wake issues. This is probably the best halfway anchorage between Bellhaven and Coinjock and those of us in slow boats appreciate it.

Anchor held well in 10-15 knot north wind. Very weak cell service, if any at all. Don't have a pet, but going ashore looked challenging.

We were to the northeast of the anchor marker on the Waterway chart -- a little behind the small point of land. Anchored in 8' of water. The little point of land offered some wave protection. No bug issues -- could be because of the time of year, the wind, or both. You will want a wash down hose to get mud off the anchor rode and the anchor. I had good AT&T cell service while my wife had zero Verizon cell service. There were 3 boats anchored in this general area and 3 more around the bend headed towards the Alligator River. There is room for lots of boats to anchor.

(At least 6 sailboats were anchored in that area by sundown.) No current. Good holding in mud. Glad I have a wash-down hose to get the mud off the anchor chain. The surrounding land is so low that it doesn't give a lot of protection from the wind.

I sit on my keel all the night. 5 to 7' of water in the entrance. I didn't get to the anchorage point as my draft is 6.5. I stop 50' of the openning. Cell signal is bad. Need to be at the top of my sailboat to have some signal.

Draft: 4.5'Overall Rating:4Holding:5Wind Protection:4Current Flow:5Wake Protection:4Scenic Beauty:5Ease of Shopping:1Shore Access:2Pet Friendly:2Cell Service:1WiFi:1Tuckahoe point is a beautiful anchorage with great holding but can be a little bit exposed if winds are from the NE to E. Depth makes the entrance narrow between G49 and R52 but it does open up to a large space of 7-10 feet of water. Tucking in further will give you better protection from the wake of boats on the ICW.
There is shore access for a pet walk but it requires a little over 2-mile dinghy ride. If you head west up the bay on the north side there is a small canal marked with small buoys. At the end of the canal there is a boat ramp with a dock to tie up to. It's a beautiful ride through the swamp!

We arrived on a windy day and could not see how there could be any wind protection. The holding was good though. We were surprised to have very good T-Mobile cell service and did our usual chat with the family.

Anchor in 10 to 11 feet of water is soft mud. Care should be taken to ensure good holding if you anticipate higher winds. Good wave and wind protection from all directions except east, where the 4 mile fetch allows the water to kick up. There is room for at least 3 or 4 boats in the main portion of the anchorage. There is more room further up the river as well. There is no current to speak of. Shore access with no facilities is available at the Gum Ridge boat ramp which is about 2 miles further west, off the Alligator River. Cell service was barely adequate for AT&T and poor for Verizon and T-Mobile.
We spent a quiet night with light winds. The anchorage's best feature is that it breaks up the very long day between Belhaven and Coinjock in to two comfortable chunks.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

We stopped at sunset Dec 2019 southbound so that we would not meet the mammoth barges in the Alligator Canal at night. Good wind protection all around except NE. Firm mud holding. Few houses and almost no power boat traffic except for tugs.
