Most are respectful as the no wake zone for the marina starts about 100 yards after the anchorage. But not all so ensure you have things secured. Wind protection is good from most directions. Take dinghy to any of the finger piers at the dock leading to the lighthouse. You can't climb the lighthouse but there's a nice little exhibit inside so stop for 10 minutes. We've posted many photos of the anchorage/town and what to do on our FB page BreatheSailDive.

Stayed on south edge of channel all the way in from the sound, depth ranged from 5 to 7 feet. Pay close attention to your buoy position coming in. Anchored between lighthouse and gazebo. I did not have time to explore the town, but I will next time.

Highly recommend this anchorage, except in East winds, of course.

We spent the first night at the town dock which has a 24 hour limit. There is a Piggly Wiggly and Food-a-Rama within a 1/2 mile walk. Recommend the Food-a-Rama. There’s also a nice Ace Hardware. Downtown Manteo is full of nice shops and a local brewery that is happy to pour you samples. They had $10 6-packs while we were there. Lots of restaurants to choose from. After our 24 hours we stayed 3 nights at anchor right off the lighthouse. Depths are 5.5-7 feet throughout the area. We shared the anchorage with two other Catamarans’s and there was plenty of room for more boats. Nice views of downtown, the outer banks, and great sunsets. There are quite a few boats coming in and out of Manteo so expect some wakes, but wasn’t bad overall. The vast majority of the boaters are respectful here. Our trip included July 4th! Definitely a town not to be missed.
