Travel 4 miles up the Corrotoman River into the east branch at the fork and find as good an anchorage as you could wish for. There is 15 feet MLW minimum on approach and 12 feet MLW at the anchorage icon. The anchorage is protected on all sides with very good holding, wind and wave protection, and minimal current for the 1 foot tide range. Trees on high banks protect you from the wind and the sandy spit that names the anchorage protects you from the one direction that has any fetch to it. The anchor set immediately and held in thick mud. Current was minimal and the few boats that passed were polite and slowed down. The anchorage is actually quite large. Once inside Sandy Point there is enough water and good spots to anchor going upriver for a mile. Select you spot according to the expected winds and enjoy.

Sandy Point is a place to set your anchor and stay for a while. The anchorage is surrounded by higher banks and is treed in almost every direction for better wind protection. This, along with the lack of shore noises, also increases the scenic beauty score for the anchorage. This is a place to come and stay for a while to recharge. Shore access is on Sandy Point, a sand spit where you can walk the dog but do no shopping: There are no stores in the area. Incredibly, in the middle what seems like nowhere, there is very good cell signal for the Big Three. There is oyster aquaculture in the river but none to speak of in the anchorage. Crab pots were noticeably absent but eagles flew overhead. We were not even bothered by bugs. The screen doors to the salon remained stowed for our stay.

Sandy Point is now one of our top ten anchorages.

Follow up: We decided "hunker down" for Hurricane Ian in this anchorage. We moved to the NE corner under a 40 foot bank with mature trees for protection. Maximum winds were estimated to be about 40 mph from the North and East. Under the bank we experienced winds of less than 10 mph with occasional swirls that reached 20 mph. We spent over a week here and did not have a single concern about the anchorage. The anchor did not budge during our stay. Definitely a keeper.

Beautiful setting with lots of great paddleboarding, dinghy, or kayak exploration possibilities. Unlike many areas of the Chesapeake, quite a bit of the shoreline around this cove is unassociated (or at least far removed) from any private property. The spit of land has a lovely beach on both sides, with clear water and lots of wildlife. Cell service was very good with our booster (Verizon and AT&T). Good holding in mud. Many locals come to the sandbar with their kids or fur-kids for swimming and romping. A few wakes but nothing bothersome. Aside from the beach, there is no land access or services of any kind.

Magical little spot with plenty of room on both sides of the river. There were several boats beached on the sandy point during the day and kids playing in the water. Good shore access for pets. We anchored on the other side of the creek which has a marshy shoreline. Can't vouch for the wind protection or holding as it was dead calm the night we were there, but the thick black mud seems like it will hold well and the anchorage is well protected from most directions. Some boat traffic, but we weren't bothered by it. Recommended.
