Horseshoe Cove - Sandy Hook

Depth: 10-20 ft
Description: Shallower than charts indicate so exercise caution. Lots of wakes from passing ferries. Winter storms have removed the "neck" on the north side. Dinghy ashore and visit Gateway National Recreation Area. Cell signal available.

Easy enough to find your way into this anchorage. Follow the depths in and watch out for crab pots. We had one other vessel our first night and several the next. Easy dinghy to sand beach but no dinghy dock. Dogs are allowed on the bay side but not on the ocean side. Wakes from boat traffic otherwise quiet.

Don't try to go to far in the hook of the old cove as there's an uncharted hulk that is covered at high water and stone ruins from the old bunker on the point. Also, shoaling off the point to the south...and fish traps on the west side of the point/bunker so don't cut it short in the dark.
