Owner Matt was friendly and helpful. We ran aground on a shoal, and he offered to come help us in his powerboat.

There is a lot of shoal if getting in and out of here, and more crab traps than I have ever seen in one location in my 20 years of sailing. If you draw more than 4 feet, be extremely careful. If you draw more than 5 feet, fuggeddaboudit!

Pulled into Coan River Marina mid winter in March 2017 transiting from Baltimore down to Williamsburg area. We were getting hammered in a confused sea crossing the mouth of the Potomac with small craft warnings out. Very nice folks running the marina, super accommodating and helpful. We were extremely grateful for a good sheltered dock to tie up to that night. Matt took us into town for supplies and we had a pleasant dinner back on board. Call them on Channel 16 or via cell phone on the way in and they can guide you in visually if you are unfamiliar with the river as we were.. Our fathometer was in-op and we still motored on in with no problems. They had one of the nicest night time skies I've seen in many years due to the lack of human habitation in the immediate vicinity.
