Concerned about dockside depth at nearby Fort Washington, we took their staff's advice to try Tantallon Marina. What a pleasant surprise! It's hard to believe we are surrounded by a peaceful, "country" setting and yet so close to metro D.C. Don't expect the modern glitz, glamour or amenities of the high-priced marinas in the city. Tantallon is in a quiet, rural setting where chirping birds and honking Canadian geese serve as your alarm clock! A nearby Enterprise car rental will pick you up and a Safeway grocery store is within walking distance. The friendly, helpful, live-aboard staff will bend over backwards to make your stay an enjoyable one. Charted depths from the Potomac into the creek would normally make us leery about coming here. But the well-marked channel, along with a rising tide, made it a non-event. And the dockside depths on our floating dock were never less than 5 feet during our five-day stay!
