After a momentary (90 seconds?) lapse of attention not far above locks 14,15,16, both our props found the famous rocks lining the Rideau Canal. We called everyone between Ottawa and Kingston and only Len's Cove was sure that they could haul our 40 foot Mainship and make repairs. Due to vibration we had a slow couple of days to reach Portland. Len's Cove was ready to haul us the moment we arrived. The damage was ascertained, both props and a strut needed to be pulled and sent out for repairs. Since we couldn't stay on our boat during repairs, Len's Cove rented us one of their cabins and we enjoyed Canada Day and a week there. There are a couple of restaurants nearby (highly recommend Recess Cafe), a small but adequately stocked grocery store, a liquor store, and a Post Office. There's also a cheese shop and bakery an hour's walk away in Forfar. Upon receipt of our repaired parts from the prop shop, Len's Cove had us back on the water with reasonably priced fuel, pumped out and full water tanks. Our advice? Stay in the channel and stop at Len's Cove Marina.

Summer 2022. $2/foot. 30amp power & water at the dock.

No dock hands to help you tie up.

Called the marina office as we got within sight and were told E dock, slip 14. Neither the dock nor the slips are labeled, so that did not help much. I made my best guess, then walked around to the marina office to pay and find out exactly where I was supposed to tie up the boat. E dock is right in front of the restaurant that is in the Marina, called the Galley.

The restaurant is nothing fancy - hamburgers and fish and chips, and a few other things. But, apparently popular locally.

Stock up on groceries someplace else. The nearby Portland Food Store is really not much more than a large-ish convenience store with a very limited grocery selection.
